My name is John Waters. I am a medical doctor with an interest in genetics, infectious diseases and tropical medicine. I first came across ragdoll cats whilst conducting post-graduate training in Los Angeles, California in the 1990's. I was smitten from the outset and fascinated by the genetics of this relatively recent breed.
Ragdollcattery is a TICA-registered boutique cattery specializing in producing perfect ragdolls through a breeding program that has crossed classic stock ragdolls with newer lines bred through selective breeding for recessive and dilute genes. Crossing these newer lines back in with traditional ragdolls again, and re-selecting for the rarer recessive and dilute genes takes time and dedication.
At Ragdollcattery we believe it has been well worth it. The result is spectacular ragdoll kittens that come in beautiful shades of blue, lilac, chocolate and cinnamon, and with all the classic features that ragdolls are so loved for. Of course the program continues to produce stunning kittens with dominant color genes as well, but they are generally carriers of the dilute and recessive genes. The genetic diversity introduced by this breeding practice avoids the dangers of line-breeding, used by some breeders to obtain the recessive traits more quickly.
We rely heavily on genetics to continue and enhance the integrity of the ragdoll breed to make sure our cats and kittens display the highest breed standards of the ragdoll as well as the best temperament traits.
